G-Unit’s Tony Yayo sat down with MTV, this past week to talk about his new mixtape, Gunpowder Guru, and his plans to release a new album independently.

Yayo told MTV that he was inspired by 50 Cent to put his newest mixtape up for sale on Amazon and Itunes, which will be released within the next few days. He said they’ve been rushing to put out the mixtape due to the huge response he received for his new video, “Bullets Whistle.”

Going into more details about the mixtape Yayo said, “Sometimes I be in the studio — I watch movies, read books and I just zone. I think I got [the title] from a movie, Gunpowder Guru,” he answered. “I liked the way it sound. I went with it. It’s a real dark mixtape. A lot of it, the production was done by my man Doe Pesci. We decided we give a lot of music away for free. What would 50 do in a position right now? 50 would sell his mixtapes on iTunes. It’s all about the Internet now.” (MTV)

Yayo also said that he plans on independently releasing a new album in June.

“That’s when the albums will come — me and Banks,” Yayo explained. “We gonna drop it independently. We not on Interscope anymore. I feel the stuff I went through on a major was nonsense. You make more money on an independent label.” (MTV)

Yayo is scheduled to go on an oversees tour alongside 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, and DJ Whoo Kid, which will kick off in February. The tour will make it’s way to U.S. in June, just in time for the release of his sophomore album.
